How to Distinguish Who a Smart People is

A truly intelligent person is one who can pretend to be a fool in front of a fool who pretends to be intelligent.

First, having domain expertise does not mean being smart. For example, food delivery and constructor are both good at their respective fields. Which is smarter? It’s hard to say. Therefore, the standard of discrimination should not be specific to a specific field, it must be universal. Second, looking at academic qualifications is not reliable too. So how do we identify smart people around us? Third, look at the final results. For example, an engineer and a technician both understand their job scope well and deliver similar end results. It is not reliable too. Usually, “smart” refers to a person’s abstract thinking and analytical ability being better than ordinary people.

Humor is related to verbal intelligence. Smart people are not necessarily humorous, but humorous people may be smarter. Smart people rarely use self-defeating humor, which involves making themselves laughing materials in front of others.
