Interestingly speaking, in the eyes of Hindu nationalists, the Taj Mahal originated from a Shiva temple called “Tejo Mahalaya” built in the 12th century, which was destroyed by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan It, and then built the Taj Mahal on its foundation. The argument like “The Yamuna RIver is emphasizing the connection with Shiva, and the white marble represents the snow mountain where Shiva mediates” is very compelling.
